質問: 論文の「結果」と「考察」のセクションで使う時制は？

「結果」では、論文を執筆する前に終了した研究について述べます。つまり結果が得られた時点のことについて書くので、単純過去形で書くのが普通です。

例：Overall, there was a significant reduction in the blood pressure of more than 60% of the patients.（全体として、60%以上の患者に血圧の大幅な減少が見られた。）

ただし、結果を示すために用いる図表やグラフに言及する際は、現在形を使います。

例：Table 4 shows the bold pressure levels of patients before and after administration of the recommended dose of the drug.（表4は、推奨された服用量の薬を摂取する前と摂取した後の患者の血圧の変化を示している。）

「考察」で結果を要約する際は、過去形を使うのが普通です。ただし、結果の解釈や結果の意義について述べる場合は現在形を使います。考察では、過去形と現在形を組み合わせて書くことが多くなります。

例：63% of the children demonstrated an elevated level of at least one risk factor, indicating that are children with obesity are at an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases.（少なくとも1つの危険因子の上昇が見られた子供は63%だった。このことは、肥満の子供は循環器系の疾患にかかるリスクが高いことを示している。）

上の文の冒頭は結果を指しているので、そこでは過去形が使用されていますが、結果の意義を説明している後半では現在形が使われていることに注目してください。

また、考察で今後の研究について提案し、将来の方向性を示唆する場合は、未来形を使う必要があります。

例：The methods reported here will open up avenues for further research in the field.（ここで報告した方法は、この分野の将来の研究に道を開くことになるだろう。）
