About me

Some of my previous schools and employers include Johns Hopkins, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Brigham and Women's Hospital (both Harvard teaching hospitals). I love to teach. I was a teaching assistant for Surgery for Engineers at the Johns Hopkins Minimally Invasive Surgical Training Center, a class modeled on the live animal surgical labs for third-year medical students at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I assisted and instructed students on surgical procedures and techniques, including robotic surgery and minimally invasive procedures. Additionally, I've taught classes to both clinicians and researchers on medical image visualization, segmentation, registration, and the like at conferences and universities worldwide, including RSNA's annual conference in Chicago and Stanford University, among others. I have also taught programs specifically for high school students interested in robotics featuring LEGO robotic biopsy of grape "tumors" suspended in Jell-O gelatin "phantoms" at Carnegie Mellon University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Johns Hopkins University. I've also taught electrical engineering to high school women while they attended summer camp at MIT. One of my main research interests (and thesis topic) is robot-assisted image-guided surgery.

About me

When I edit, I feel the very special privilege of helping my Authors get what has often been years of hard work finally published. Because I have been a practicing physician (general surgery and general practice) and have had the opportunity to rotate through a couple of our country's top teaching hospitals, I have had a first-hand experience of the immense pressures these authors face in trying to integrate their academic requirements with their daily clinical responsibilities, so I am just really glad to be able to be of help! Feedback is always welcome, always an opportunity to learn. It is largely through my editing work that I stay up-to-date with developments in my field; either through fact checking or just simply following up on my Authors' references. When I edit, I like to imagine my most respected teachers and authors reading the article: what questions would they ask? What about the readability: can they get through it? Does it make sense? Is it straightforward and simple without being oversimplified? Is the information accurate, and are the methods transparent and repeatable? And finally, how is the information going to improve the care and quality of life of my patients?

About me

As a scholar myself, I understand and greatly value the importance of academic research. Language should not be a barrier for scholars to share their findings and make global contributions to their fields! I specialize in helping scholars from diverse linguistic backgrounds improve their English-language manuscripts so that they are publication ready. I help authors overcome the challenges of producing scholarship in a second (or third!) language. As a trained linguist, I have developed a sharp eye for the details of language. I bring my "linguistic lens" to every manuscript I edit. I ensure that the authors' complex ideas are presented in clear and concise language. I give every manuscript a thorough edit, identifying and solving any problems with grammar, sentence structure, word usage, and tone. I do all of this while carefully maintaining the author's voice and original meanings. I also teach linguistics at a local university in Chicago and maintain an active research agenda in the field. Through my teaching and research activities, I stay engaged and up to date with the linguistics scholarly community. I bring this knowledge to all of the linguistics manuscripts I edit.

About me

I have been a professional editor for many years, but my passion for wordsmithing dates back to childhood, when I lost myself in books of all kinds. I loved reading so much that I often walked home from the bus stop with my nose in a book, using my peripheral vision to steer around obstacles. I also filled many exercise books with my own writing. After receiving my undergraduate degree in ecology, I started my career as a medical reporter and learned to craft precise, tightly written news stories. Later, I earned a degree in conservation biology and became involved in writing, editing, and fact checking for several nonprofit environmental organizations and publishers of academic textbooks. Some of my recent projects included books on child psychology, English grammar and style, statistics, architecture, and mathematics. I find it deeply satisfying to enhance a piece of writing by making deft edits that retain the author's intent. The variety of the assignments I receive also keeps me engaged; it is an endlessly absorbing challenge to polish the text so that each piece is the best it can be. I expect I will be a writer and editor for life.

About me

Being an editor combines my two loves—language and academic research. Being a bilingual native of Montreal, a city where English and French culture are constantly interacting and evolving together, it is perhaps no surprise that I am at home in the field of communication and written expression. I see my role as helping our clients share their work with the greatest ease and accuracy. I find such feedback very encouraging. I read common publications extensively to keep up to date with the improvements in my specialty. Considering the material-based nature of my field, I also believe that manufacturer brochures/guidelines should be followed. To edit a manuscript as accurately as possible, I always research terminology by using the relevant glossaries/dictionaries and methods applied in other similar studies. I also read every edited paper thrice to reduce the probability of editor-incorporated errors. The cited literature in a paper is often an informative source for clarification.
